From Tokyo to Sendai

1. From Narita Airport

Narita Airport -> Narita Express (60 min) -> JR Tokyo Station -> JR Tohoku-Shinkansen (about 2 hours) -> JR Sendai Station 3F -> 1F Taxi Station -> Taxi (7min) or On foot (15min) -> Institute for Materials Research

From Narita International Airport, participants can access to Sendai by train via Tokyo Station. The Narita Express Trains (JR) from Narita to Tokyo Station takes about 60 minutes (JPY 3,070).
The JR Bullet Train (Tohoku Shinkansen) departs from Tokyo Station to Sendai Station every 20 minutes, and it takes 95~130 minutes (about JPY 11,000). The JR-Ticket for Sendai will be available at JR-Ticket Office in Narita Airport.

Airport Express "Skyliner" also connects between Narita International Airport and Ueno Station of Tokyo. The change to Tohoku Shinkansen is also possible at Ueno Station. More Information is available in the Website of Keisei-Railway.

2. From Haneda Airport

Haneda Airport -> Tokyo Monorail (25min) -> JR Yamanote Line (10min)-> JR Tokyo Station -> JR Tohoku-Shinkansen (about 2 hours) -> JR Sendai Station

From Haneda International Airport in downtown of Tokyo, participants can access to Sendai by train via Tokyo Station.

Other Connections to Sendai Airport, there are direct flights from Korea and China. And, the access is also possible by using domestic flights from Nagoya and from Osaka.

Sendai is a city with a population of one million, and is the political and economic center of Japan’s Tohoku (northeast) Region. Although Sendai is a large city, it is known throughout Japan as a modern city in harmony with Nature. The city possesses beautiful scenery, such as the Hirose-gawa River that runs through central Sendai, and the Lush Zelkova Trees that line its streets. Greenery is especially abundant in the center of the city, which Has Tree-Lined Streets and Parks. As a result, Sendai is called the “City of Trees.”
